A sampling of my friends' Contigo Foundation crew. We were popcorn baggin', sandwich stackin' fools today in Pisuli. (And I think the kids had a good time, too 😊).
My friends have expanded their foundation to serve children of impoverished families (many live without running water or electricity and sometimes become orphans because families can't afford to care for them). Today we shopped for groceries to feed 270 children in Pisuli tomorrow. It is a special event for the children where they get to have lunch, popcorn, and pop, and watch a movie in the park. This is a HUGE deal since many of them have never gotten to experience popcorn and a movie (as well as a meal). This video is the "camp" where we took the groceries today and where we will prepare 270 sandwiches and pop popcorn tomorrow before the big event.
A few more from today before I go to bed. On our walk to dinner, the sky grew dark and it began to rain for a hot second. Then, as quickly as the dark clouds came, they disappeared, and a little sliver of a rainbow popped out across Lake Zurich. It was a nice way to end our day.
The good news is that I won't have to go pantless. My friend said that people wear everything in Shanghai, including the older people who wear pajama bottoms in public. She said it's kind of a status thing because it's like saying, "I don't have to work because I'm well-off, so I can just hang out in my pajamas all day." (It's kind of like the pajama status thing we have in America, but it's called the "Walmart Shopper" status.) The bad news is, I only brought one pair of pajama bottoms, so I'll only get to walk around Shanghai looking all "high society" for one day. The other bad news is I think I'm getting a sty in my eye. So now that I plan to wear pants here, I might have to change the title of my posts to "Stye in My Eye in Shanghai" (to explain why, in all my pics, I will look like Quasimodo.) If only I knew of a place where I could buy cheap knock-off sunglasses...
